REGIOSTARS Awards 2026 Applications Open – An Opportunity for Municipalities in Montenegro

REGIOSTARS 2026 landscape

The REGIOSTARS Awards 2026 are officially open, and applications can be submitted until 22 May 2026.

The REGIOSTARS Awards have been granted annually since 2008 by the European Commission – Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) and represent one of the most prestigious European recognitions for outstanding EU-funded projects that contribute to regional development.

Over the years, REGIOSTARS have become a label of excellence for projects that:

  • have delivered tangible changes at the local and regional level,
  • demonstrated measurable and long-term impact,
  • introduced innovative approaches,
  • and inspired replication across Europe.

Award Categories

The awards are granted in five categories, reflecting key priorities of EU policies:

  • A competitive and smart Europe
  • A green Europe
  • A connected Europe
  • A social and inclusive Europe
  • A Europe closer to citizens

Why Apply?

Considering the significant number of EU-funded projects implemented by municipalities in Montenegro, there is strong potential for submitting projects that stand out—particularly those that:

  • have generated positive change within local communities,
  • introduced innovative or new approaches to addressing local challenges,
  • continue to show positive results beyond the project’s completion,
  • or have the potential to be replicated in other European regions.

Each year, REGIOSTARS award winners are announced during the EU Week of Regions and Cities, held in Brussels, providing awarded projects and institutions with increased international visibility and recognition.
