As part of the European Mobility Week celebrations, a recreational bicycle ride was held in Kotor on September 19, bringing together numerous citizens and active lifestyle enthusiasts for a joint ride along the coastal road through Dobrota. The event was organized by the Municipality of Kotor, specifically the Secretariat for Entrepreneurship Development, Communal Affairs, and Traffic, with the support of the project “Municipalities for EU – Empowering Local Self-Governments in the EU Integration Process” and in cooperation with the Union of Municipalities of Montenegro, Mensa Montenegro, and the Rotary Club Kotor.
The goal of this initiative was to promote cycling as a healthy, environmentally friendly, and sustainable mode of transport, with a special focus on encouraging healthy lifestyles among the youngest, while also drawing attention to the need to preserve Kotor’s unique natural and urban environment.

Participants were welcomed at the very beginning by Vladan Barović from the Secretariat for Entrepreneurship Development, Communal Affairs, and Traffic, after which the ride proceeded along an attractive route from the plateau of the Institute of Marine Biology to Sveti Stasije and back to the gathering point.
Following the successful completion of the ride, a social gathering and open discussion with the participants were organized at the starting position. Citizens had the opportunity to exchange experiences, share their impressions of riding along the coastal road, and discuss the importance of improving cycling infrastructure and promoting sustainable transport solutions in the municipality.

In addition to the bicycle ride itself, the European Mobility Week program in Kotor encompassed other significant initiatives aimed at traffic safety and modernization. Students from the “Njegoš” Primary School in Kotor and the “Mladost” Mixed Secondary School in Tivat, supported by the NGO “Naša akcija” and the Youth Team Tivat, participated in mapping safe routes to school, identifying critical and safe points for pedestrians and cyclists. Furthermore, a public presentation of the first bus transport application in Montenegro, authored by Andrej Medojević, was held at the Kotor Youth Club, significantly facilitating the planning and use of public transport for citizens and visitors.

The bicycle ride and accompanying activities once again confirmed the importance of creating an environment where sustainable mobility, digital innovations, and healthy lifestyle habits become a natural part of everyday life. By supporting projects like this, the Municipality of Kotor continues to actively contribute to European green goals and to the creation of a more human-centric and accessible city for all generations.
