As part of the activities marking International Coastal Cleanup Day, an environmental cleanup campaign entitled “A Day for the Lim – Berane for a Cleaner River” was organized in Berane on October 8, 2026. The campaign brought together representatives of local government, state institutions, educational institutions, the municipal utility company, and a sports fishing club, united by a common goal of preserving the Lim River, removing waste, and raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
The campaign was carried out as part of the “Local Communities for Cleaner WATERS” initiative, launched by the Water Administration of Montenegro in cooperation with five Montenegrin municipalities and with the support of the project “Municipalities for the EU – Empowering Local Governments in the European Integration Process.”

Activities in Berane were implemented in cooperation with the Municipality of Berane, with the aim of improving the condition of riverbanks and encouraging greater involvement of the local community in the preservation of water resources.
During the campaign, two critical locations in the Berane area were cleaned, making a concrete contribution to waste removal and the preservation of the natural environment surrounding the Lim River. Through the joint efforts of participants, a clear message was conveyed that protecting rivers and their banks requires continuous cooperation between institutions, local services, and citizens.

The campaign was attended by Deputy Mayor of Berane Milosava Paunović and representative of the Water Administration of Montenegro Tatjana Bubanja, who emphasized the crucial importance of preserving clean water resources and the necessity of joint action by institutions and local communities in environmental protection.
The participation of primary and secondary school students from the Berane area gave particular significance to the campaign. Together with teachers, local government employees, and members of the “Lim” Sports Fishing Club, they actively participated in the cleanup activities. Their engagement demonstrated that young people can play an important role in preserving natural resources and encouraging positive changes within their local communities.

Technical support during the implementation of the activities was provided by DOO “Komunalno” Berane, ensuring the safe and organized execution of the cleanup operations. Cooperation among local institutions, municipal services, educational establishments, and recreational anglers once again confirmed the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.

Through their direct involvement in field activities, young people from Berane demonstrated a high level of responsibility, solidarity, and teamwork, confirming that environmental awareness is best developed through practical activities and personal contributions to nature conservation. The involvement of young people in such initiatives is particularly important for fostering a long-term and responsible attitude toward the environment.
