On the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day, an environmental cleanup campaign was organized in Kolašin along the Pažanjski Stream, bringing together representatives of local government, relevant services, the municipal utility company, and local residents. The participants shared a common goal of preserving watercourses, removing waste, and raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
The campaign was carried out as part of the “Local Communities for Cleaner WATERS” initiative, launched by the Water Administration of Montenegro in cooperation with five Montenegrin municipalities and with the support of the project “Municipalities for the EU – Empowering Local Governments in the European Integration Process.” Activities in Kolašin were implemented in cooperation with the Municipality of Kolašin, with the aim of improving the condition of local watercourses and encouraging greater involvement of the local community in preserving natural resources.
The cleanup of the Pažanjski Stream was attended by the Mayor of Kolašin, Petko Bakić, representatives of the local government, the Protection and Rescue Service, the municipal utility company, and local residents, whose joint efforts contributed to improving the condition of the watercourse and creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
During the activities, particular emphasis was placed on removing waste from the watercourse, thereby helping to preserve the natural appearance of the area and reduce the negative environmental impact of improperly disposed waste. The campaign also provided an opportunity to highlight the importance of continuous care for rivers and streams, whose protection cannot be limited to occasional cleanup activities.
The participation of the Mayor of Kolašin, Petko Bakić, representatives of local services, and residents demonstrated the importance of joint action in addressing environmental challenges at the local level. Such activities make an important contribution to preserving the natural values of Kolašin while encouraging citizens to take a more active role in protecting the environment in which they live.
The “Local Communities for Cleaner WATERS” initiative focuses on strengthening cooperation between institutions, local governments, and citizens, with the aim of preserving and improving the condition of water resources, reducing the negative impact of waste on aquatic ecosystems, and fostering a more responsible attitude toward natural resources.
The Municipality of Kolašin expressed its gratitude to all participants whose engagement contributed to the successful implementation of the campaign, while encouraging citizens to continue acting responsibly toward the environment and contributing to the preservation of rivers, streams, and their banks.
The activities carried out along the Pažanjski Stream once again highlighted the importance of collective efforts in environmental protection, particularly considering that clean and well-preserved watercourses represent an essential part of Kolašin’s natural heritage and one of the key prerequisites for improving the quality of life of the local population.
