Environmental protection is one of the values that strongly connects European communities today, and this message was sent from Plužine, where Europe Day was marked through a cleanup action and a joint contribution to preserving the natural beauty of the Piva region.
The event gathered representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, the Municipality of Plužine, Piva Nature Park and participants who symbolically demonstrated through the environmental action that European values also imply responsibility towards the environment in which we live.
The participants were welcomed by Ivan Doderović, Director of Piva Nature Park, who highlighted the importance of preserving natural resources and joint action in environmental protection.

“The clean-up action organised as part of the Europe Day celebration met expectations, thanks to the joint efforts of the organisers and the support of the EU Delegation to Montenegro. We will continue striving to ensure that environmental cleanliness in the Municipality of Plužine remains at the highest possible level and serves as an example to other municipalities in Montenegro. We would especially like to thank Ms. Isakson, who personally took part in the action and, through her example, demonstrated the European values we all aspire to,” said Doderović.
Liselotte Isaksson, Deputy Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, emphasized that local communities are essential for strengthening European values and sustainable development.

“I am very happy to be here specifically for an event on environmental protection, especially in an inspiring place like Plužine. I am proud that environment protection an important area of EU cooperation. It’s the duty and interest of us all to protect the environment, for ourselves and for future generations: the air, the soil, the forests, the waters, the biodiversity – all the things that makes Montenegro rich”, said Isaksson.
Following the opening part of the programme, a cleanup action was organized during which participants cleaned and arranged areas around Plužine, sending the message that preserving nature requires continuous joint efforts by institutions and citizens alike.

The celebration of Europe Day in Plužine is part of a national program being implemented throughout Montenegro during May, aiming to bring European values closer to citizens and highlight the country’s European perspective.
The Europe Day events are organized by EU-funded projects—Europe House, EU4ME, and Municipalities4EU—in cooperation with Montenegrin municipalities.
