The Ministry of Culture and Media invites all interested stakeholders to take part in the European Heritage Days 2026 by designing and organizing a wide range of activities, including programmes/events, lectures, conferences, festivals, workshops, exhibitions, panel discussions, virtual events, presentations, and similar activities intended for both children and adults. The event will take place from 21 to 25 September 2026.
Every September, European Heritage Days are celebrated across Europe under the patronage of the European Commission and the Council of Europe, through events organized at both local and national levels in line with a common annual European theme. This initiative, observed by all signatories to the European Cultural Convention, brings together thousands of events across the continent, raising awareness of our shared European heritage and the continuous need to protect it while promoting inclusiveness and encouraging creativity.
The 2026 theme is “Heritage at Risk: Revive, Preserve, Reimagine.” The aim of this year’s edition is to highlight the urgent need for action and creativity in safeguarding our cultural heritage, while emphasizing the importance of intergenerational knowledge, oral storytelling, and the power of cultural expression in times of crisis.
“Revive” highlights efforts to bring endangered traditions and heritage sites back to life through traditional craft workshops, oral history projects, festivals, and similar initiatives.
“Preserve” focuses on communities responding to threats such as climate change, conflict, and excessive urbanization by using heritage as a source of identity, resilience, and civic engagement.
“Reimagine” encourages new ways of engaging with cultural heritage through digital technologies, artistic practices, and intercultural cooperation to ensure it remains relevant, accessible, and vibrant for future generations.
