Art, creativity and the energy of young people sent a strong message from Rožaje that European values are best reflected at the local level – through togetherness, cooperation and opportunities that connect people.
On the occasion of Europe Day, an exhibition of artworks and a student bazaar were organized at the town square, bringing together representatives of institutions, the international community, the education sector and citizens. The event was addressed by the President of the Municipality of Rožaje, Rahman Husović, and the Ambassador of Hungary to Montenegro, Peter Hetei.

The President of the Municipality of Rožaje, Rahman Husović, spoke about the importance of European values.
“May 9 is not only a symbol of European unity. It is a reminder that humanity’s greatest achievements were made when nations chose cooperation over division and a shared vision instead of isolation,” said Husović, adding that this year Europe Day carries special significance and emotion for Montenegro and Rožaje, as it marks the jubilee of two decades since the restoration of Montenegro’s independence.
The Ambassador of Hungary to Montenegro, Peter Hetei, emphasized that Europe Day represents the idea of togetherness, cooperation and connecting people, highlighting that local communities play an important role in bringing European values closer to citizens.
“Europe Day represents a simple yet powerful idea: that countries and people are stronger when they work together. Across Montenegro this month, we see this idea come to life through culture, music, sport, local traditions and the activities of young people. These moments connect people and show that we build Europe together every day in our communities,” said Hetei.

He also stressed that young people are at the heart of the European project, and that their openness, curiosity and willingness to cooperate represent an important part of Montenegro’s European future.
As part of the programme, an exhibition of submitted artworks and a student bazaar by the pupils of Primary School “25th May” were organized in cooperation with the local tourist organization, while the winners of the art competition were announced at the end of the programme.

Special awards for the best artworks were presented to Lejla Ademagić, Dajlan Ganić i Amina Šutković, whose creativity, talent and artistic expression uniquely reflected the European values of unity, diversity and cooperation.
The celebration of Europe Day in Rožaje is part of the national programme taking place across Montenegro throughout May, with the aim of bringing European values closer to citizens and promoting the country’s European perspective.

Europe Day celebrations are organized by the EU-funded projects Europe House, EU4ME and Municipalities4EU in cooperation with municipalities across Montenegro.
